It’s estimated nearly one out of six American children is now considered obese*, but at the clinic where Judy Groner, MD of Nationwide Children’s Hospital sees patients, that number is even higher.
“The rates of both overweight and obesity combined can be as high as 40 percent among all of the kids that come here at a variety of ages, so, it’s a big problem and could really impact kids’ futures,” says Dr. Groner.
Before it does, Dr. Groner and a team of researchers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital decided to do something about it. Instead of focusing solely on the weight of the kids, however, researchers here looked at the eating habits of their mothers.

Doctors at Ohio State University Medical Center have completed a rare procedure on a baby who was still attached to her mother.
The procedure, known as EXIT (EX-utero Intrapartum Treatment), is performed only about a dozen times a year in the U.S. on babies who are in medical danger during birth, like Janayah Cambell of Columbus.
